He has received 25 national invention patents, 10 awards including the National Invention Award (Third Class), National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class), Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class), State Oceanic Administration Science and Technology Progress Award (First Class), and Shandong Province Invention Award (Second Class). He has mentored 138 doctoral and master's students and published 286 research papers.

Professor Wang Yunbing is the chief technical director and inventor of the world's first approved Abbott polylactic acid fully degradable polymer stent.
